John L. Pennings, M.D., FACS
Dr. Pennings graduated from the University of Minnesota and completed his surgical residency and advanced laparoscopic surgery fellowship in Portland, Oregon. He is the founder and director of MIS Northwest and Surgical Bariatrics Northwest. In nearly 10 years of clinical experience, Dr. Pennings has performed well over 1000 advanced laparoscopic gastrointestinal procedures. He is a Board Certified Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, an active member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons, and the Society of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. He is committed to surgical excellence and compassionate patient care.

Meet Our Staff
Cher Jacobsen, M.D.
Dr. Jacobsen graduated from the Creighton University School of Medicine and completed her family practice residency in Omaha, NE. She joins Surgical Bariatrics Northwest as Medical Director of the OPTIFAST® physician directed weight loss program. Dr. Jacobsen is also a member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP) and the North American Association for the Study of Obesity (NAASO).
Surgical Bariatrics Northwest's specialized team members work diligently with our patients to provide them with the most positive, well-rounded experience possible. From insurance precertification to patient care, our team members are able to offer each patient the individual attention they deserve.
